Wellington Snow Shed Elopement: Talissa + Trevor
Red and black may not be the first colors you think of when you think “marriage”, but this palette was perfect for the glamorous and gritty styled shoot out in the Cascades. Our team made its way over to the Wellington Snowshed to create a gorgeous set for a gender neutral and moody elopement vision. It featured everyday and affordable pieces, accessible to almost any couple.
OUR COVID-19 ADAPTATION.
The Wellington Ghost Town is off Highway Two near Stevens Pass in a small, slightly creepy oasis of its own. Anyone with an eye for texture would see how the desolate and raw quality of the buildings and the overgrown landscape could make for a dynamic backdrop to a photoshoot. As COVID has forced us all to adapt in various ways, Tapestry and the vendor team had to adapt as well. Originally, the group was going to set up a small ceremony for the couple at a different park shelter location, but since COVID has shut down many parks, the team adapted to setting up a more intimate elopement celebration, just as many couples have.
OUR PNW COUPLE.
This shoot features Talissa and Trevor, a thoughtful and laid back couple who were excited to support the shoot and collaborate to make the vision come to fruition. Coming from artistic backgrounds in the wedding industry, they were creatively in-tune with the fantasy. This shoot spoke to them in its creative direction and purpose, so Talissa and Trevor became integral to the process.
About five years ago, they met at the coffee shop Trevor worked at. After chatting about travelling the world, finding out they had mutual friends, and then friending each other on Facebook, the two met for a coffee date on another day that extended well past dinner and into today. During non-COVID times, they would be spending their weekends travelling to new towns to drink artisan coffee and picking up new plants to fill their home. They are now married, living in Seattle, and deeply in love with a baby.
OUR VENDORS.
This day started out with the set up team, Kate of Tapestry Event Co., photographer Rachel of Greenhouse Photo + Co, and florist Brett James, creating a beautiful tablescape and floral installations while cuing and planning shots for when the couple arrived. The aim of the shoot was to capture a moody scene with gender neutral styles and dark tones. This wasn’t the style of any typical elopement, but it’s execution was played out beautifully through the stationary from Love Fern Design Studio and the dessert from Night Owl Bakery, as well as the rentals from Yay! Parties.
Love Fern highlighted the edgy quality of the shoot by mixing floral patterns with leather and rock textures. The table cards were made of agates, and the seating chart was in black acrylic with a modern font. Night Owl Bakery baked and designed the cakes at their location in Port Orchard, but the florals for the cake were sculpted live at the site. The baker and designer at Night Owl were awesome in reading the vibe from our mood board and conversations and bringing the design into fruition.
While designing the look, Kate was able to filter the Yay! Parties’ light and contemporary collection into a moody and rich vein that it isn’t typically used for. The result was plush and refined surfaces that contrasted with the background of old and worn down concrete.
OUR MOODY ELOPEMENT SHOOT.
Before coming to the site, Talissa met up virtually with Holly of Holly Tipp Makeup to do a walkthrough on hair styling and makeup design. She rocked adapting her services to COVID requirements. She made sure Talissa captured the mood of the shoot and that everyone stayed safe while glamming up.
As Brett set up the scene, he hand built every floral piece on site. The rich red color deepened the moody quality of the shoot and pushed the luxurious tones even further. The couple arrived just as the pieces were coming together. They changed into their outfits and laughed their way through the shoot. The outfits mimicked the theme of contrast through the rest of the decor, where edge met luxury. They were also simplistic and relatively affordable pieces that could be worn in other settings. Trevor wore a simple black suit and a turtleneck while Talissa wore wide leg trousers with a billowy and feminine top. Her accessories, chandelier earrings and chain bracelets, brought texture into her satiny outfit.
The location of the Snow Shed is easily walkable and accessible for any real life couples that are entranced by the moody beauty of this setting. This time of year, the waterfall of rain coming down the side was another textural element to an already unique setting. Tapestry Event Co. had a blast putting this down to earth and alternative shoot together.
